The harvest of 2011 was a very difficult year
for this unique single vineyard in the russian
river valley. farmed by lee martinelli jr, and with his expert knowledge of just what to do to make the grapes from this year exceptional!
It started with late rains and cold temps which created an uneven fruit set. Compounded with a cool summer and high pressure, it was difficult to get the fruit to ripen. but we did! This Pinot Noir was picked at the end of september just before a big series of rains. thank god! The fermentation lasted 2 weeks, then the wine was pressed off very lightly and then put in barrels were we stirred for 9 months.
What came about from the new oak purchased and extended time on the lees and in barrel was a very ellegant wine with structure and finnese. With stunning aromas and rich flavors, this wine will be a keeper for a long time. The wine was unfined and unfiltered and hand crafted to produce only 8 barrels.
